On Rooftops is a series of accessories and other small objects based on the idea of rooftop as an architectual and social environment.
the main focus was to create various depths in different materials using layering pattern and transparency. Unique silk scarves refer to aerial views of a metropolitan area, drain pipes shape necklaces and bangles, a lift necklace takes you up and down and small mirrored boxes mimic office buildings.

Series description
On Rooftops

For the series "On Rooftops" the main focus was to create varying depths in different materials, often using transparency.
Drainpipe Necklaces and Bangle were made using clear bent tubes which disrupt the natural flow of a chain and create an extra dimension. The shapes of the bent tubes refer to the cube, a simple expression of 3 dimensions.
For Level Scarf and Neckerchief we wanted to combine the following ideas. First, we wanted to recreate the view of a city's high rise buildings as seen from above, with its various heights and depths, and secondly we wanted to make a system for printing that produces different variations of a pattern every time we print, making every scarf unique. We hand screen printed an irregular herringbone pattern twice, once straight on the square, once in any random angle.
The idea for Mirror Box derived from the social message and the visual aspect of office buildings with half silvered windows: you can see out but you cannot see in. The walls of the box work in two ways, first as a reflecting monolith you cannot see inside. Then, once opened, the walls create another variation of changing patterns of depths and transparency with its black stripes and mirroring surface.
Weight Necklace, Cluster Belt and the Satchel are results of a research into the use of weight as a function or mechanism, it initially started as a way to keep your belongings in place on breezy rooftops. The necklace has a cast concrete pendant which is shaped like the make shift concrete weight and points to its function as a weight, while the belt has multiple wooden blocks with brass plates that are magnetised to cling together. The Satchel uses a concrete weight as a way to keep the bag closed.
